How to Calculate Shorthand Mistakes?
Every
Shorthand Aspirant has this question that how he/she can find out actual shorthand mistakes at home without using any software so that he/she doesn't face any difficulty in Exam Hall.
In Shorthand accuracy is the key to success. If you have wonderful Shorthand speed but your are getting more errors then that speed is of no use and in this Blog I'll share with you what is my expected mistakes from any Aspirant. But before it let us see what Staff Selection Commission's criteria is.
Shorthand Mistakes which are treated as Full:
a) Every word or figure which is omitted including omission of a definite or indefinite
article. If a group of words is omitted, mistakes will be counted mas many as the actual
number of words omitted.
He is a very good boy and deserves favour
He is a good boy deserves favour
b) Each wrong word or figure having substitution or typed anything else in place of actual word. There will be Mistake equal
to the number of words/figures dictated which have been replaced/substituted by
other words(s)/ figure(s).
He is a very good boy and deserves favour
He is a definitely good boy but deserves favour
c) Each extra added word or figure or a group of words or figures which are not in actual passage.
He is a very good boy and deserves favour
He is definitely a very good boy and he deserves favour
Shorthand Mistakes which are treated as Half:
a) Spelling Mistake, including exchange of letters in a word and also omission of a
letter or letters from a word. However, spelling mistakes of proper nouns and nams which are unfamiliar get ignored.
Mahendra is a very good boy and deserves favour
Mahender is a very good boy and desrves favour
b) Use of singular noun in place of plural noun and vice versa.
They are very good boys
c) Inappropriate use of capital or small letters at the beginning of the sentence.
NOTE
a) More than one error in a single word: All the errors are counted but the total
mistakes counted in a single word should not exceed one full mistake.
b) Every passage will be accompanied with by a list of words which can be spelt/written in more than one form. All the spellings/forms of words will be acceptable and not counted as errors. For example the word 'Honorable' is written as 'Hon'ble', Hon, Honourable and hon. - all these forms are treated as correct. Similarly, figures are in numerical or alphabetical no issue with it but I recommend go for numerical.
c) Candidates will not be penalised for any type of errors or any mistake other than those mentioned above.
d) Method of calculation of mistakes in Stenography Skill Test:-
Error percentage = (All Full Mistakes + All Half Mistakes/02) x 100
_________________________________
Number of total words in the actual passage
Let's see this in an easy manner.
Suppose the Master Passage has 1000 words. The number of Full Mistakes are 10, Half Mistakes are 20 then his Percentage of Errors will be 10 + 20/2 * 100 = 2000. Now divide this with 1000 because master passage has 1000 words. The Percentage of Errors will be 2%.
A lot of candidates have this question that is there any mistake of Full Stop. So, I want to clarify that there is not mistake of not putting Full Stop but after a full stop the letter at the beginning of the sentence is made Capital and you the candidate doesn't make it capital then half mistake will be counted.
Moreover, there is no mistake of not putting commas. A lot of rumors are there that will be half mistake if you don't put essential commas. Here my experience says it is difficult for any aspirant to understand the complete concept of commas and putting it at the time of exam is really tough. However, the commission itself says that there will be no mistake other than the mentioned mistakes in its Evaluation Process. So, don't worry about commas. If you know the exact position where the commas should be used then put it otherwise no need to worry.
What is my expected mistakes from any Aspirant?
If the passage of 1000 words is EASY then mistakes should not exceed 1 per cent.
If the passage of 1000 words is MODERATE then mistakes should not exceed 2.5 per cent.
AND
If the passage of 1000 words is HARD then mistakes should not exceed 3.5 per cent.

ReplyDeleteHello please consider my doubt. Does using Backspace button (to make correction in the end) considered as error as per SSC? Should I leave it like that even after I spot any mistake without correcting it? Btw really appreciate for effort taken for posting the above article. Really clarified most of our doubts. Thx :) Awaiting for your reply.
